Description
Edited by W.M. Smyth
Paperback in good condition except for a yellow strip along the left side of the cover that looks like it has had tape on it and it was pulled off or something.
Contains 17 passages, extracts taken from books. They have been selected for their inherent interest rather than being complete.
They describe adventurous experiences, all having occurred since the Second World War. They are varied in their background and circumstances -- a young woman observing chimpanzees in Africa, a driver taking part in his first Grand Prix, a nurse coping with tragedy in a Vietnam hospital, wolves, sharks, mountains, crevasses, the Challenger Deep (submarine that went through under the Arctic ice and came out the other side). There are several about the sea, and several about flying or rocketry, but this is far more than a boy's book about boats and aircraft. And in fact five of the adventures concern -- and are told by -- young women.
Although intended for readers in their early teens, these selections may well appeal to people of any age who respond to the excitement and drama of adventure today.
