Every aspect of fruit growing is covered in details: choosing and planting, pruning, thinning, budding, grafting, cordon and espalier training, spraying, diseases, drying fruit, exhibiting fruit, are all given detailed attention. Each species has an individual chapter devoted to it. There are many charts which make spraying simple and effective. Over one hundred and fifty illustrations make everything easy to follow and the home gardener will have little difficulty in carrying out the more intricate operations, such as budding and grafting.
The late Duncan Brown, the author of this book, had 30 years of service with a state department of agriculture as an orchard supervisor, and was a keen backyard fruitgrower. Apart from helping orchadists he wrote for newspapers and journals with advice for the home grower.
This revised edition takes into account changes in method, in chemical sprays in in some fruit varieties.
