The “Roll Back the Years” series tells the story of Taumarunui and surrounding districts since the arrival of the railway and the opening up of the King Country in the early 1900s. The original six volumes were written by historian Ron Cooke, who originally published it as a magazine series in the 1980s. Ron developed a most readable style of photos and accompanying easy- to- read short stories and there has always been a steady request for further copies. Taumarunui & Districts Historical Society Inc has republished the old magazines in book form. The Society is now delighted to announce the publication of Roll Back the Years Vol 7. Volume 7 contains all new stories, many resulting from a writing competition held in 2016. More than 20 contributors wrote down their memories and shared photos of the history of the districts surrounding Taumarunui. Circus life, sawmilling, railway and steam trains, farming, flooding, bridges, local businesses, settlers are some of the topics covered.

The book is being launched on 13 December 2017. Orders received earlier will be posted as soon as the books arrive back from the printer.
