This anthology groups ten top New Zealand writers to show the recent development of fiction writing in this country. The contributions cover the past 40 years, from Maurice Shadbolt in the late 1960s to Ronald Hugh Morrieson in the early 1970s, on through Russell Hayley and Keri Hulme in the 1980s to Kirsty Gunn, Chad Taylor and Mike Johnson in the 1990s. Novellas from literary legends Janet Frame and Witi Ihimaera round out this anthology of the best contemporary New Zealand short-fiction. Seven New Zealand Novellas was nominated in the 2004 Montana Book Awards Anthology category.

About the Author Dr Peter Simpson is one of New Zealand?s leading literary and art critics. He has written books on Ronald Hugh Morrieson and Colin McCahon, and many articles on New Zealand literature and painting, and has edited books on New Zealand and post-colonial literature. He is currently associate professor of English at the University of Auckland. Dr Simpson previously edited the successful Seven New Zealand Novellas, nominated in the 2004 Montana Book Awards Anthology category.
