John Hunt led the successful British expedition in 1953, and subsequently became the "father figure" of post-war British mountaineering. He was President of the Alpine Club in 1956-58

This is the story of how, on 29th May, 1953, two men, both endowed with outstanding stamina and skill, inspired by an unflinching resolve, reached the top of Everest and came back unscathed to re-join their comrades. The work contains even more than that: the reasons for trying to climb it and how much success depended on previous expeditions, careful planning, close-knit team-work and all the hundred and one details which had to be taken into account.

Hardcovered book, (cover has some sun fading marks). Very good inside. Published in 1953, 299 pages, numerous photographic plates throughout (8 in colour), 3 maps and several other illustrations in the text. No inscriptions. A couple of tape marks inside the front cover and some age related spotting in the index.
