Eastern Coach Works 1946-1965 By Maurice Doggett & Alan Townsin
This book is based on Maurice Doggett's immensely detailed study of the company, which goes back for many years, with numerous visits to Lowestoft, and also his and John Senior's discussions with senior management. I, too, have memories of admiring most of ECW's new products as they first appeared, over the whole span of this volume. Yet working with Maurice's material has been a fascinating and immensely enjoyable task, revealing many facts of which I was unaware despite my own considerable interest in the firm. I hope that readers will find the result similarly engrossing.
This volume takes the story as far as 1965, not only about half-way to the end of production in 1987 but a year in which a major change of direction took place, with the beginning of ECW's association with the Leyland empire.
