The Civil War: A Narrative

In 1958 the first volume in a three-volume history of the American Civil War by Southern author and historian Shelby Foote was published. By the time the third and final volume of ‘The Civil War: A Narrative’ was published in 1974 Shelby’s work was widely acclaimed as a masterpiece of both scholarly research and storytelling ability. Today Shelby Foote’s ‘The Civil War: A Narrative’ is considered to be one of the classic texts in the historiography of that conflict.

In 1998 Time Life Books announced a special 40th anniversary illustrated edition of ‘The Civil War: A Narrative’ divided into 14 volumes instead of the original three. The series was published between 1998 and 2000 with each book lavishly illustrated with period photographs, sketches, paintings, engravings, and colourful maps culled from Time-Life Book’s vast resources and experience in publishing Civil War material.

There were 14 volumes in the series: the three volumes not included here are Vol 6 ‘Charleston Harbor to Vicksburg (1999), Vol 13 ‘Petersburg Siege to Bentonville’ and Vol 14 ‘Fort Stedman to Reconstruction’ (2000). .

The set for sale here comprises 11 volumes – the individual volume titles are listed below. Vol 1 – Secession to Fort Henry Vol 2 – Fort Donnelson to Memphis Vol 3 – Yorktown to Cedar Mountain Vol 4 – Second Manassas to Pocotaligo Vol 5 – Fredericksburg to Steele Bayou Vol 7 – Gettysburg to Draft Riots Vol 8 – Tullahoma to Missionary Ridge Vol 9 – Mine Run to Meridian Vol 10 – Red River to Spotsylvania Vol 11 – Yellow Tavern to Cold Harbor Vol 12 – James Crossing to Johnsonville

All are in good condition, complete with dustjacket.

Pick up is the preferred delivery option as the combined weight and size of the set will make delivery by courier quite expensive. But I will book a courier if someone outside of the Wellington region really wants them.
