Description: Fascinating and wonderfully illustrated early 18th Century account of this seminal period of the Catholic Church. The Council of Constance is the 15th Century ecumenical council recognized by the Catholic Church held from 1414 to 1418 in the Bishopric of Constance. The Council ended the Western Schism by deposing or accepting the resignations of the remaining papal claimants & electing Pope Martin V.
Condition: Original brown full paneled leather boards much warn with some loss. The spine has faded gilt print & decoratives with compartmentalized 5 raised bands with wear and some loss. Title pages all present & Vol 1 has full frontispiece of Frederick Guillaume and both volumes a number (15) of other full page engraved plates all present and clean. Pages clean with no foxing or staining. Joints, gutters, text block all tight with evidence of some amateur boards repair.
