Description

Everyone Came Yarns, Fantasies, Figments and Lies. Tales of Last Century New Zealand By William Gruar

Everyone Came is a collection of stories based on the memories and imagination of a fifty-five year old New Zealander. Some of the tales are true accounts of moments in New Zealand film-making and another explains how the legendary rock band Blerta got its name and describes one of its early performances in Christchurch. William Gruar writes with bitterness and humour of the difficulties in managing relationships, children, health, money and sexuality. His stories have developed from his work experience in sawmills, quarries, playing double bass in bands, film making, farming and truck driving; his recent disability, and of course, the problems of trying to be a writer. (True to his aim of extracting humour from odd places, the one story relating to disability is pure farce).
