1997 M. King. An excellent work; written in accessible language, this is a brief overview of Maori history in New Zealand. Michael King is an expert, and has a love of and respect for his subject which clearly shines through. Maori, like Native American, is a term coined to unify a disparate people, and the history is complicated. What we think we know is coloured by the dominant culture through which such information is disseminated, and King succinctly refutes some 'facts' and contextualises others to give a basic and informative precis of a people whose history is not that which we think we understand. Highly recommended, a nice copy, crossed out name on inside cover otherwise a clean tight copy.
