Description
By Phillips, William J Hardcover First Edition
Publisher: Wellington Dominion Museum / R. E. Owen, Government Printer (1952)
"In general the common houses of the Maoris were of three shapes - namely, rectangular, circular, and oval. The rectangular house was variously constructed and may have been sunken below the ground level or built entirely above the ground. The sunken house is often referred to as a pit dwelling; but dwellings appear often to have been only partly sunken, the upper portion of the walls being earthed up outside."
Dominion Museum Monograph number 8.
A good copy with dustjacket as seen in picture.
