Pat Lawlor OBE (1893-1979) was an important figure in New Zealand literary life in the 1920's, 30's and 40's.

The result is a book of tremendous interest to all those whose childhood or youth was lived in those years, and to all who knows the modern capital of today... In special chapters on the Epidemic of 1918, the Great Depression and Ships familiar to New Zealand, the author adds still further non-parochial interest to his book, while a chapter on James Cowan and his Maori place-names of Wellington is of considerable importance. A chapter on Katherine Mansfield reveals many previously unpublished facts about the early life and friends of this famous Wellingtonian, and will be of special appeal to all with literary interests. A small portion of OLD WELLINGTON DAYS was originally printed in the EVENING POST and letters which the author received as a result contain much additional interesting data which is now included in this book. The twenty-four pages of old-time photographs are probably the finest photographic record of early Wellington ever published, and add still further interest to a book which is vastly entertaining.
