"Guy Clapshaw's novels detail the adventure, humor, excitement and thrill of air travel during the 1960s from a pilot's perspective. His first novel, 1995's "A Likely Story", became a fast favorite among aviation buffs. Clapshaw (b. 1937) an incredible and expansive career in air travel, including a 2-year stint in the Royal Air Force. Clapshaw writes about his long career flying for Air New Zealand, from the days when human beings did the navigation with the help of computers, not the other way around, to the era of the jumbo jet. Mr. Clapshaw, who hails from England, was called for duty in the Royal Air Force when he was 18. "It delighted me as they then decided to train me as a pilot and that's what I wanted to do," he says. "It was like saying to a kid, 'Go into that sweet shop and eat all the sweets you like.'" After flying for the RAF, Mr. Clapshaw went on the spend 63 years in aviation, flying with Air New Zealand for many years. He has flown almost every type of aircraft from World War Two fighters to Jumbo Jets."
