THIS COPY WITH NEW ZEALAND CONNECTION/PROVENANCE, ROUGHLY CONTEMPORARY WITH AUTHOR Bookplate (inside front cover) bears name of Thomas William Kirk, (1856–1936), a NZ biologist and a scientific administrator. He studied the fauna and flora of New Zealand and named various taxa of New Zealand molluscs, including: Cylichna zelandica T.W. Kirk, 1880, a sea snail Kirk contributed articles on biological subjects to numerous publications including the Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute, Nature, and a French journal of conchology. Second-hand antiquarian book. Binding is NOT usual cloth or leather - rather black/brown with tiny raised stipples and has papery feel at spine ends. May have been custom bound/rebound by the owner. Remnants of a (private?) library label top of spine. No other library markings. REPAIR IS NEEDED where front and back covers meet endpapers (see photos) Stitching solid but book needs careful handling. A few pencil annotations
