Description
Interesting relic of the Crimean War. Hedley Vicars was an evangelical soldier who had received the call whilst stationed at Halifax Nova Scotia. He became a religious mentor to his troops and did good works at both Piraeus during a cholera epidemic and then at the Crimea itself. He died heroically repulsing the Russians at Sebastapol Memorials was written by Catherine Marsh and distributed widely to British troops thereafter. Many copies found their way to New Zealand during the land wars. This copy has the signature of a Henry Barfield and could be a fertile source for further research. James Nisbet, London 1859.(The printed cover has the date, 1857) Condition: Repaired with new end papers but otherwise original and complete.
