Description
John Hunter was an important 18th Century Scottish surgeon who played a critical role in the development of the scientific methods used in medicine.
During his tenure with the Royal Society he was considered the leading authority on the treatment of venereal diseases such as gonorrhoea and syphilis.
He performed many experiments on sexually transmitted diseases and his findings and treatment procedures were reported in his “Treatise on Venereal Diseases” including the use of mercury and skin cauterisation as cures. This work also made significant contributions to the practice of urological surgery.
This 1787 first French edition was translated from the original English by Giuseppe Audiberti.
Original leather hardcovers, complete with all pages: [xvi], 17-32, 430, [2], 7 foldout engravings (all intact), handset in French and printed/published in Paris in 1787.
In good condition being solid-bound with no loose, torn or missing pages, 200mm x 130mm.
