Description
The Practical and Devotional Family Bible containing The Old and New Testaments, according to the authorized version, with marginal readings, and original and selected parallel references printed at length, and the commentaries of Henry and Scott, condensed by the Rev John McFarlane. Glasgow . 1859. Published by William Collins 203 Buchanan St Glasgow.
Condition.
Red cloth embossed covers. (AEG) All edges Gilt. Re-backed at some stage. Mild foxing and tanning. Mostly a very clean bible. Some minor off setting. Some related ephemera laid in.
History: The bible originally belonged to a William Arbuckle who Married one Jane Hardie in Stirlingshire, 1852 Then owned by their son Robert Hardie Arbuckle who married one Anna Isabella Ferguson at Inverness 14th June 1893. In the early 20th century the bible ended up here in either Auckland or Whakatane with one of their children. The last entry is for the death of Annie Mcleod Adams at Papakura in 1969
I have done some investigation into the family and I am sure there is more to discover. My investigations will be loosely laid in to the book.
