We will be holding llama shearing workshops throughout November and December at our Templeton llama farm.

This auction is for a ticket for 1 person (plus observer if you want a partner to come along for support) to come along for a hands on shearing lesson. This is a one to one training session, there will be no other learners or observers in attendance, so no need to worry about nerves in front of strangers. .

This 90 minute session is suitable for a current owner who is keen to learn how to shear their own animals, or a sheep shearer looking to expand their repertoire.

We will select some of our quietest animals for this training, and we will only be using our own equipment for this. We will demonstrate and talk you through the whole process first, and participants will get an opportunity to actually shear the llama(s) if they (and us!) are confident enough - maybe more than one if time permits.

We will also be discussing selection and care of equipment and sorting of fleece.

The workshops will be available from early November, but are weather dependent (can't shear in the rain or wind) so dates will be arranged by mutual agreement with ticket holders. Vouchers valid until the 6th January, and we can offer workshops daily through the Xmas/New Year break.

Unlike our handling workshop this one is not relevant for alpaca owners, as alpaca shearing is very different: Llamas are shorn standing up, I do not halter them, and it is generally a one person job. Alpacas are tied down and stretched out for shearing, and it is usually done with a team of 4-6 people. Most alpaca owners employ a shearing team, and if you youtube or google it you will be sure to find an example if you are curious.
