Description
Another old PC from the collection, here's a Compaq Portable III model 2660 which is not working. I plugged it in and the power supply went 'pop' but it may be useful for parts etc to someone.
Some background: Compaq Portable III was 'Assembled in Scotland' released in 1987, weighs 20 lbs, has a 640 x 400 10" gas plasma screen and came with 640 to 2048 k max memory and either a 20 or 40 meg HD. I'm not sure what the actual specifications were on this one.
I've had a quick look at the motherboard and it looks all intact, no burn marks etc but the power supply is definitely gone.
The case is in great condition, not damaged or yellow and looks great. I've had this since new and it's not been used in recent years. Only other thing is there is fraying of the keyboard cable at each end, which is a common problem for these models.
There is lots of information on the internet, one I found was http://oldcomputers.net/compaqiii.html
Pickup is from Grafton/Parnell area of Auckland City.
