Accurate white Balance is important to photography, and can bring you a true and creditable picture. As well we know, the automatic white balance of the camera or DV sometimes is not accurate and a colour cast can unexpectedly be seen requiring post production Photoshop manipulation.
This is particularly so under incandescent and flourescent indoor lighting, but can also occur in studio lighting and in outdoor shade and particularly in the evening. (This may or may not be advantageous)
Manual white balance tells the camera which object is white and supposed to come out white in the picture. The camera then calculates the difference between the current color temperature of the image and the correct color temperature of a white object. It then shifts all colors by that difference. It does so more accurately than automatic white balance.
Simply attach the cap and set custom white balance. Works with both JPEG and RAW.
Set the focus length to telephoto mode
Attach the white balance lens cap on the filter thread of the lens, then press the White Balance button (or set custom white balance in the camera menu). Take a shot towards the light source, not the object you want to photograph. The camera then does its WB calculation and adjustment.
Take off the cap and shoot in the normal way.
