Evening primrose oil is extracted from seeds of the evening primrose plant (Oenothera biennis) - a wildflower that grows in eastern and central North America.

Evening primrose seeds have very high levels of the essential fatty acid "gamma-linolenic acid" (GLA), also known as "omega-6". The oil contains up to 15% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and 70% linolenic acid

Evening primrose oil is primarily used to treat symptoms of skin conditions. It is used to help alleviate itchiness caused by dermatitis and eczema - the strongest evidence is for treatment of eczema.

By working to dilute sebum, a thick oily substance that is over-secreted in some people with acne, the essential fatty acids in evening primrose oil may reduce the risk of pores becoming clogged and lesions developing. The oil's EFAs help treat rosacea by reducing inflammation, controlling cells' use of nutrients and by producing prostaglandins, which stimulate the contraction of blood vessels.

The oil extracted from evening primrose seeds is very gentle and can be used as moisturizer to keep dry areas hydrated. It also boosts blood circulation which is helpful to treat tired skin
