Water remains alkaline (approx pH 7.5). The Esuwaai system begins it's process by filtering water through a ceramic dome to 0.2 microns and in so doing removes baceria and harmful micro-organisms. This filter can be cleaned when it becomes dirty and is best replaced after one year. Next the water filters by gravitation through a series of layers in the middle filter cartridge. This cannot be cleaned and is repaced after 6 months to one year (depending upon usage). Within this cartridge are several layers as follows:

1. Silver activated carbon layer Carbon is one of the most powerful absorbers of impurities and pesticides. This carbon layer traps dirt, dust, salts and chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride.
2. Silica layer Silica keeps the water fresh and the temperature cool. Silica is a mineral that promotes healthy tissues and helps prevent premature ageing, cardiovascular and other diseases.
3. Sand layer Minerals and trace elements for the sand provide minerals.
4. Zeolite Bioball layer Zeolite, a natural volcanic material, selectively absorbs certain harmful and unwanted elements from water - especially heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and chromium. It has a unique ability to exchange cations (positively charged ions).
5. Resin Bioball layer Resin is a natural product that assists ion exchange action too.
