LARGE AMETHYST GEODE. A violet variety of quartz, amethyst was thought by the early Greeks to protect its owner from drunkenness. They wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Amethyst is thought by some to be a powerful protective stone and natural tanquiliser. It is said to relieve stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swing, dispels anger and rage, fear an anxiety. Up until the 18th Century, amethyst was included as one of the cardinal, or most valuable gemstones, along with diamond, ruby sapphire and emerald. However since the discovery of extensive deposits in Brazil and other locations it has lost much of its value as a gem stone. This amethyst geode is a SIGNIFICANT PIECE because of its size and structure.
