White Carnation Poppy

These can be sown Spring or Autumn - Autumn sowings produce stronger plants, they will flower for you in early spring. Frost and even, snow, resistant!

Plants can grow to over a metre high. They prefer full sun and deep well drained soil. (for blooming well)

I always prefer to start these off in punnets of seed raising mix. (with an old meat tray or similar underneath them) Water the mix and leave to stand for about 15 minutes. The soil will sink down. Top the punnet up with more seed raising mix and press it down gently so you have an even surface. Sprinkle the top of the mix carefully with about 20 seeds per punnet.

With most poppys (and all small seed) it is vital to keep the surface of the soil damp (but not saturated) at all times until germination.

Once sprouted it is best to water with a fine spray (any household sprayer such as those you get window cleaner in etc is fine as long as it has been thoroughly cleaned - of course)

Transplant into the garden once they have passed the four leaf stage - choose an overcast day or plant after the sun has gone down. (this minimises transplant 'shock')

Once plants are beyond the 'baby' stage they are low maintainence and only require staking.
