We need a motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Finance group as a Business Analyst on a permanent basis.

The Business Reporting, Analysis and Performance team is responsible for providing high quality business / financial support and advice to internal Business Units and assisting in their achievement of strategic and operational goals.

We seek high calibre experienced finance professionals. You will have a background in accounting or business, and be seeking to grow your experience in a larger team environment.

A tertiary commerce degree is essential and ideally you will either have or be working towards a professional qualification with the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) or an equivalent professional body.

The difference we need is the ability to translate financial and operational information into practical commercial and business outcomes.

This is a pivotal position where you will drive improvements in financial and business performance and management and ensure effective procurement throughout Council.

Key areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Assisting the Finance Group and Business Units to effectively plan, schedule, analyse and organise work to ensure projects meet agreed performance criteria and budgets that are consistent with the Council's strategic, operational and financial objectives
  • Providing quality financial and business advice to Business Units to ensure that accurate financial information forms an integral part of their decision making process
  • Provide accurate and timely business financial information at both an operational and strategic future focused level
  • Create "financial" space, opportunities and leverage for Business Units to deliver on their strategic and business goals
  • Proactively identify business and financial issues and risks
  • Developing appropriate business and financial models for the provision of Council services and the stewardship of Council assets
  • Assisting with the development of policies and process to support best practice
  • Developing and maintaining effective business partnerships with Business Units
  • Providing training, guidance and assistance to Business Units. Exposure to large corporate reporting practices and the requirement to 'get out from behind the desk' and find out how the business works makes this role stimulating and rewarding
