The True Honey Co specialises in harvesting Manuka honey from remote locations, helping landowners maximise their resource while creating a value chain with a high level of visibility and integrity.

The Experienced Beekeepers will play a key role in ensuring that all day to day beekeeping and hive manipulation tasks are performed efficiently, safely and to an exceptional standard. They will be instrumental in building and maintaining strong hives and healthy bees to ensure their maximum performance.

Location: Based in Dannevirke and Central Hawkes Bay areas.


Skills and experience required:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a commercial beekeeping environment
  • Hive maintenance/manipulation, splitting, swarm control, feeding, re-queening, disease prevention, honey harvesting, honey extracting
  • Hive shifting/transportation
  • Hive building and repairs
  • Queen rearing experience would be an advantage
  • Experience in Apiary recording systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety protocols

An advantage but not a necessity would be to have:

  • Experience with GPS and mapping systems
  • 4WD drive vehicle experience (on farm access routes)
  • Experience driving light to medium trucks with light trailers during day and night hours
  • Experience in ground support for helicopter operations

Qualifications and licences required:

  • Full, clean NZ class 1 licence
  • DECA Certificate
  • Forklift licence (not a necessity but would be an advantage)
  • Class 2 licence would be an advantage
  • Basic first aid Certificate (not a necessity but would be an advantage)

Applicants must be prepared to spend some nights away from home during the busy period (August-March) as we cover remote Manuka blocks throughout the North Island and into the top of the South Island.

Consideration will be given to all applicants with relevant experience and attributes.
