The Manager, ECE Operational Policy leads the design of operational policy settings for ECE services and kohanga reo to ensure that they are equipped with policies and processes that align to the three tiers of ECE legislative requirements; the Education Act 1989, the 2008 Regulations (ECE), licensing criteria and ECE Funding Handbook.
The role reports to the Group Manager ECE Resources and Operations, Sector Enablement and Support.

Key priorities for the role include the following:
a) Development of the ECE operational policy function
b) Maintenance and guidance of the ECE Regulations, Licensing and Certification Criteria and the ECE Funding handbook
c) Lead and support the planning an delivery of projects and work programme items
d) Providing the conditions through the regulatory framework for quality early learning to occur for all children
e) Contribute to the Ministry's wider goals, policies and strategies such as Ka Hikitia, Pasifika Education Plan, Tau Mai te Reo and other educational initiatives
f) Leading the provision of advice to the regions, stakeholders and other Ministry groups
