Rangiora-based MainPower New Zealand Limited owns and operates the electricity distribution network across the North Canterbury and Kaikoura regions. Our network delivers electricity to a population of over 65,000 via 5,017 kilometres of overhead lines and underground cables, across a geographical area of 11,180 square kilometres. As an essential service provider, we invest in the electricity network to ensure a safe, secure and reliable power supply is provided to the region.

We are looking for an experienced Designer to join our Engineering and Design team. This role is centred on providing safe and effective solutions for customer connections and for the development of our distribution assets.

You will be producing designs and project plans for new build and upgrade projects for both LV and HV networks. You will also work closely with our project and operation teams to ensure efficient and successful delivery of all projects. Ideally you will have proven experience with design of electrical distribution networks and excellent management of workflow and documentation. You will also be very familiar with design requirements for underground, ground-mount and overhead network assets.

You will have:
  • 3+ years of electrical network design experience, including drafting with AutoCAD or equivalent
  • sound technical knowledge of electrical network components, network operation, design standards and specifications, and understanding of regulatory and industry standards
  • excellent management of documentation/workflow
  • outstanding self-management in order to meet agreed targets and timescales
  • well developed written and oral communication skills.
