Are you a "common-sense" type person? It would be great if you are a qualified Water Operator who has a NZQA Certificate in Water and Wastewater Reticulation or its equivalent or working towards a relevant qualification. So, maybe you have a plumbing, drain laying or mechanical background or simply a good understanding of how water reticulation schemes work. The Hurunui District Council is looking for someone who is keen to work as part of our busy team to take control of these assets and deliver safe, compliant services

The work you will be doing involves maintaining, operating and upgrading wastewater reticulation, treatment plants and storm water systems. Large parts of the work is carried out on your own so you will need to be highly self-motivated and have excellent time management skills.

This permanent fulltime role is physical demanding, so you must have a high degree of physical fitness.

You will be someone who is capable of ‘owning' and taking responsibility for the entire waste and storm water maintenance process, including the establishment of maintenance plans. You will need to be thoughtful, think about all aspects of the job and be proactive when responding to issues that may arise. Other requirements are taking charge of others working on the waste and storm water networks, being thorough in your approach and fastidious about record keeping.

This position represents the Council's public face so you must have good communication skills and be committed to providing excellent customer service. You must also have a current driver's license, preferably Class 2.
