Interested in a career in social services?

Easy? No. Challenging? Sometimes.

Rewarding? Definitely.

You are passionate. Driven. Empathetic. You're tolerant, resilient and down to earth. And you are able to maintain a sense of professionalism and calm in the face of a challenge. You're looking for a tight-knit team, a supportive culture, and a varied role which will allow you to make a real, daily difference to the lives of those who need it most.

If this is you, you're in luck: we have the perfect opportunity for you to do all of these things - right here, with us.

We are The James Liston Hostel. It is estimated that there are in excess of 200 rough sleepers in Auckland, and we're committed to helping as many of those as we can by providing emergency accommodation, facilities and regular meals. We're proud of what we've achieved, but there's no way we can continue to do this without the help of some passionate, driven individuals - including a new Support Worker for our night shift.

No two days will be the same in this highly varied role. Here's just a taste of what you'll be up to:

  • Providing cover of reception and handling of enquiries
  • Cleaning, setting up bedding, laundry and general facilities upkeep
  • Checking-in and inducting new residents
  • Assisting with residents' needs and enquiries
  • Fostering a friendly, trusting and collaborative culture at all times

You'll appreciate your decision-making skills in this role, as well as your ability to have a balance of compassion and professionalism. If you've worked in social services, a residential care facility, a hospital, aged care setting, prison or mental health facility you'll find yourself drawing on those experiences, too - but they're not the be-all and end-all. Your understanding of the Kiwi way of life, values and culture will stand you in excellent stead.

In exchange for your hard work, you'll enjoy the convenience of on-site parking in addition to your competitive rate of pay. You'll also have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain new qualifications which will help you further your career. Most of all, you'll appreciate the fact that you're really making a difference, where and when it matters. And that feeling is pretty hard to beat.

Here's your chance to do great things. Don't let it slip by - apply now!

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
