The current and long standing Director of Training is retiring at the end of February 2020 and we are seeking applications from suitably qualified Psychiatrists for this exciting opportunity. The Northern region training programme comprises the three Auckland metro DHBs and Northland DHB and is the largest and most diverse programme in New Zealand. This represents an opportunity to lead the programme into the future and play a key role in developing a future workforce.

The Director of Training role responsibilities include ensuring that the programme is delivered to meet Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists' standards and acting in association with the Vocational Training Committee (VTC) Chair to develop and deliver the training programme to the highest possible standard.

We will be appointing two Directors of Training with specific allocated responsibilities. Major areas of work are likely to include recruitment of trainees, management of the mentoring programme, supervisor accreditation, run allocation, examination preparation, and assisting trainees with their transition from trainees to Fellows.

The role is independent and a high standard of integrity is essential. Skills in advocacy, mentoring, leadership, pastoral care and training development are also important. An ability to balance training needs versus service delivery needs is essential. An aptitude for being accountable to multiple stakeholders will also be required.

An in-depth understanding of the College Accreditation Standards for both the Training Programme and the individual Training Posts will need to be present or quickly developed. Additional useful competencies could include website design and maintenance, presentation skills, and knowledge of HR Processes.

The Director of Training is required to work with the College, the VTC Chair, the Psychotherapy Coordinator, the Director of the Formal Education Programme, the University of Auckland, and the DHB-based Registrar Training Facilitators, Supervisors and Trainees. The Director of Training is an influential position in developing the future of the psychiatry training programme and the mental health workforce. The role is answerable to a number of key stakeholders including the DHB's, but also has an important position as a key RANZCP representative.

A total of 0.6 FTE is available and this will be allocated by negotiation and agreement with the successful candidates.

You will need to be a currently registered medical practitioner with an Annual Practising Certificate as well as being a Fellow of the RANZCP.
