Thorndon Chippery is seeking a Head Chef to lead our busy and successful kitchen

We are Wellington’s favourite fish and chips restaurant and leaders in the growing casual dining sector. We have an innovative menu for fish and chips allowing much more choice and quality. Our customers can not only expect the best fish and chips but also, healthy food options, delicious burgers and other seasonal delicacies. We are a growing brand with opportunities to develop in your career. We currently have two stores, one in Mt Victoria and one in Thorndon. We are an extremely tech savvy business and utilize the latest cloud based tools to manage our business. We were the pioneers for online ordering in Wellington.

About the role

  • Working alongside the Front of House manager to jointly manage the business and reporting directly to the General Manager of The Chippery group.

  • Liasing with the Head Chef at our Mt Vic store to ensure consistency across the brand.

  • Accountable for wage and food costs by controlling the purchases and writing rosters.
  • Accountable for training of your team of up to 10 staff to ensure the highest of quality meals and hospitality.

  • Management of our Food Control Plan and Health and Safety Handbook.

  • A hands-on position you will be expected to be leading the busiest shifts of the week and motivating your team. You will be allowed ‘office’ time during the week to complete your other duties. We are a 7 day week operation and you will be expected to make yourself available for night shifts and weekends.

  • You will meet once a week with the management team from The Chippery group to communicate and plan our business. This means you will have a voice at how our business is run.

  • You will be enrolled on our Leadership 10 month course to develop your understanding of business and leadership skills.

  • You will be paid a competitive salary and a share of revenue based on performance targets.

  • You will be given an opportunity to learn our Front of House systems. This will include being sent on an LCQ course and have your Manager’s certificate paid for by The Chippery.

  • Will have written menu’s and/or specials in previous roles.

  • Understand the mechanics of costing a menu and a roster.

  • Proven loyalty to other employers.

  • Worked with Food Control Plan’s and general kitchen compliance records.

  • Will have worked at a Head Chef level before or is an experienced Sous Chef wanting to make the next step in their career.

  • Worked in a very busy kitchen environment. Thorndon Chippery can produce around 300 orders per day (orders not covers!)

  • Confident in managing above and below your position in the group.
