We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and fully qualified chef to assist in running our large and busy restaurant kitchen from July onwards.
Our restaurant offers a wide range of dining experience with stunning views that overlook the Nelson Lakes National Park.

We offer set menus and buffets to our tour groups and a variety of events including conferences, weddings, music and sport events and corporate functions.
Our Restaurant and bar not only caters for families but also to our guests who come to enjoy the National Park for hiking, skiing, mountain biking and fly fishing.

Our restaurant features good quality modern cuisine, with an emphasis on Asian fusion, fabulous, fresh local produce from the Nelson area.
The Alpine Lodge is a family owned and operated hotel just over one hours easy drive from Nelson and Blenheim.
We have on sight accommodation available as well as two new staff houses, just 10 min walk away.
We work together as a team supporting each other with a positive attitude and a willingness to be flexible when the pressure is on.

Ideally this person needs to…..

At least 4-6 years of cooking experience.
Fluent English is essential.
Previous experience of working in a similar role.
A team player who is professional yet enthusiastic and fun, creative and able to multi task.
Worked in both, hotels and stand alone high volume restaurants.
Vast experience in developing menu ideas, menu creation, recipes design and preparation oversight.
Comprehensive understating and experience of international cuisine, especially Asian, obtained in an Asian speaking country is essential.
Experience in healthy cuisine, to put together diet specific, nutritionally balanced and organic dishes is also essential.
The ability to work on all sections is important– cold, hot, pizza, desserts and baking.
Demonstrates leadership and mentoring abilities.
Aptitude to step up and lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.
Proven disciplines in managing food / wage costs, supplier arrangements and rosters.
Enjoys the outdoors and living in an isolated village.

Educational requirements:
National Certificate (Level 4) in Cookery, or equivalent.
Professional qualification in confectionary would be an added advantage
Have at least 6-10 years experience
Speaks fluent english
Drivers license

An even tempered, easy going personality is a must, as is attention to detail. We want someone with creativity and passion to help us produce innovative dishes and enhance the overall dining experience for our customers.
Our head chef is a wonderful person, so the successful applicant must not only have the right qualifications and experience but most importantly the right personality to work along side him and the rest of the team.
