  • Travel offshore to setup international data connection points to NZ
  • Attend and potentially talk at some of the best technology conferences globally

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in connecting NZ to the rest of the world via a new submarine/underwater fibre optic cable. Can you think of a better work story?

  • Work with NZ's best talent to design and build the future of high speed data connections
  • Travel offshore to setup international data connection points to NZ
  • Attend and potentially talk at some of the best technology conferences globally

The organisation:

A unique Network Service Provider based in New Zealand providing connection speeds that are second to none. They understand that innovation flourishes through real-time exchange of knowledge, ideas and information so are constantly working towards improving customer's connections to the rest of the world.

What you'll be doing:

Reporting to the Head of Networks you'll be joining a small team of Engineers with quite possibly the best skills available in New Zealand. You'll be a key member responsible for building and maintaining network-based services and platforms that allow important collaborations around the world.
Primary duties will include:

  • Work alongside other senior engineers designing, upgrading, and (in the future) configuring routing and switching architecture, provisioning network services (including MPLS, QOS, and IP multicast), ensuring network security, and managing the network monitoring and measurement infrastructure.
  • On a rotating basis, serve as principle point of contact for network issues and resolve escalated trouble calls (on call roster).
  • Take responsibility for the system that manages network configurations and develop new management tools as necessary.
  • Participate in the test and evaluation of Layer 2/3 network hardware that is being considered for purchase and provide expert advice when a technology is ready for use by a project in the company.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • A minimum of 5 years of IP networking experience, in a WAN (preferably) or LAN environment, including network software and tools development.
  • Experience configuring, troubleshooting and using IPv4 routing protocols, preferably BGP, OSPF and/or ISIS in a WAN or LAN environment.
  • Experience with IP network services such as MPLS, IP multicast and QOS.
  • Experience with router configuration, preferably Juniper routers.
  • Experience with a router/switch configuration management, RANCID preferred.
  • Experience with program controlled access to routers using Linux or Unix based tools.
  • Experience developing software and proficiency coding in Python
  • Experience with a UNIX command line environment, including ssh management of systems, cron, NFS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of SNMP and MIB structure.
  • A working knowledge of one or more of the following: C, C++, Python, Java.
  • Experience managing Network Engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry directions.

  • Experience with a relational database, preferably MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and a familiarity with current web development technologies such as CSS, JavaScript and AJAX.
  • Familiarity with designing and implementing network security systems.
  • Awareness of optical networking equipment configuration and operation.
  • Experience with IPv6 in a production environment
  • Familiarity with OpenFlow

Why apply for this role:

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in projects that most Network Engineers only dream of. The Southern Cross submarine cable (connecting NZ to Australia and the rest of the world) was commissioned in the year 2000 so this is the first opportunity in 18 years to get involved in the next big thing (commissioning of the Hawaiki cable) and providing amazing connection speeds to the rest of the world.

Don't be one of those people who read an advert about a fantastic opportunity and never actually apply, only to later hear somebody you know bragging about how great their new job is! They applied so don't miss this opportunity - APPLY NOW!

Your interest will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Please apply using an MS WORD version of your CV, as if we proceed with your application this is the format we'll require to submit to clients.

Note: We review all CV's manually and you will only be contacted if your skills and experience meet the requirements of any of our clients.
