We are currently on the hunt for a highly motivated Engineering Lead to be responsible for a squad of highly talented individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. You'll encourage them to collaborate, think big and take risks in a blame-free environment to deliver high quality solutions that enables our wider business objectives and strategy.

In this role you'll be:
  • Working with our Head of Infrastructure and other Infrastructure Engineering Leads to create an overall direction for our roadmap.
  • Leading your squad operationally, to remove roadblocks and ensure that they can achieve to their best possible potential.
  • Ensuring that your squad understands, plans for, and takes accountability for delivering to business outcomes and schedules.
  • Owning all aspects of delivery, including planning and managing your own dependencies.
  • Leading your squad in building automation systems where appropriate to prevent problem recurrence and reduce the amount of human intervention required to achieve repetitive tasks.
  • Working with your squad to create quality user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Rigorously managing your delivery and effectively communicating status, risks and issues.
  • Acting as a conduit between our customers and our business to determine the products that your squad will deliver. You'll also ensure these products are high quality, pragmatic, and meet outcome-centric business objectives.
  • Ensuring your squad follows the Trade Me guidelines for product development, including code quality, coding standards, design standards, unit test, security etc.
  • Responsible for the on-going personal development and training of your people, so that short and long-term business and personal needs are met

You will have:
  • A university degree and at least eight years' industry experience with progressive increases in responsibility.
  • Four years' experience leading and motivating teams in an agile, ecommerce, product environment
  • Proven experience working in an architecture, technical or product role, in complex web environment with multiple teams and systems.
  • Exposure to agile project management techniques as well as Lean Startup principles.
  • Solid knowledge of security principles, risks, and vulnerabilities.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: PowerShell, Python, Go, Perl, Ruby or shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with 'infrastructure as code' best practices using tools like Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack, Chef and Puppet.
  • The ability to build strong professional, friendly and accessible relationships with your squad and the wider business.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to confidently communicate in formal settings to a wide audience.
  • The ability to nurture your team through mentoring and coaching.
