Jamestrong Packaging is a leading packaging supplier to some of the region's well-known brands. They supply innovative metal packaging solutions and are the largest supplier of aerosol cans and food cans in Australasia.

They have 4 established manufacturing facilities located throughout Australia and New Zealand and are in the process of commissioning their 5th and newest facility based in Christchurch. This plant will primarily manufacture and supply cans used for infant formula.

With the start up of this facility and the requirement to manufacture on a 24/5 operation, Jamestrong are looking for a mechanically skilled person to work on can making machines. The main purpose of this role then, is the operation of the production line and machines, and to ensure that the operation is safe, efficient and effective at all times so that daily production targets are met.

To be considered for this role, mechanical aptitude and previous manufacturing/ machining/ mechanical servicing experience are required. Although not essential, as with other food based manufacturers, familiarity with food safety (HACCP and ISO 22000) requirements will be highly desired. For all applicants, willingness to demonstrate a commitment to quality and workplace health and safety will be essential for the role.

In summary, we are looking for someone who is/ has,

  • Mechanically minded
  • Previous high speed manufacturing, workshop machining or mechanical servicing experience
  • Able to follow SOPs and adherent to food safety requirements (HACCP and ISO 22000)
  • Continuous improvement/ lean focus
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate
  • A proactive and positive attitude and approach to work

This role will suit an aspiring fitter/ technician/ mechanic who wishes to develop their career as a skilled engineer in food/ dairy manufacturing, or equally, a senior machine operator who is already performing mechanical maintenance tasks. This position will work on a weekly rotating shift between 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am located in Hornby, Christchurch. The first shift of the week starts on Monday 6am and the last shift finishes Saturday 6am.
