To be great in a role like this, all you really need is the confidence to speak with strangers, ask the right questions, and a strong belief in doing what is right- not just what is easy.

At First Security, we will help you earn NZQA qualifications and provide a full training programme to help you become a Security Guard. So, what does a security guard do?

Your main focus is to help reduce risk to our customers, by providing them quality security services, however we have several different roles that have specific tasks assigned to them:

The hours for the Security Officer roles will be between the hours of 5pm and 7am (some daytime work will be required), 7 days a week. There will also be additional hours available to cover sick and leave.

Security Officer - Patrols/Electronic Monitoring
• Alarm Operation
• Access Control
• Alarm monitoring and response
• Cash in transit
• Identification checks
• Personal escorting
• Providing a safe and secure environment
• Unlocking premise and lock down of premises
• Client staff welfare checks and escorts
• Schedule installation and de-installation of electronic monitoring devices on Offenders/defendants (Electronic Monitoring/Patrols only)
• Bylaws Enforcement for Local/District Councils. Animal control, Noise control, Freedom Camping Monitoring and various bylaws enforcement as required.

Security, Customer Service and Loss Prevention Officers
• Client site security patrols
• CCTV monitoring
• Entry control
• Customer service and greeting
• Loss Prevention
• Building Security
• Monitoring staff welfare and performing staff escorts

This might sound like a lot, but we offer you a great training programme and support, to ensure you have all of the skills and knowledge you need to succeed. All you need to bring with you to be successful in the role is:

• Good listening and communication skills
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Patience
• Ability to work alone

There are a few other requirements that are important, such as the ability to pass background checks, FULL driving license for mobile patrols, and obtain a Security Certificate of Approval and Security Clearance - however we will help you obtain those if you don’t have them already.
