GALLIPOLI POPPY FIELDS W/Colour by Kathleen (Kitty) Airini Vane 1950
K (KITTY) AIRINI VANE 1891 - 1965 Born in Wainuiomata was the daughter of Wellington artist Kat Sperrey who had studied in Rome. Kathleen from a young age despite her mother passing at the age of 5 grew to enjoy art. As a young woman the out break of WW1 saw her nursing in Malta. It was here that she met her solider husband the Hon. Ralph Vane, son of the 9th Baron of Barnard. In the 1920s Kathleen painted in many countries with her works being accepted by the Royal Academy. She donated much of her works to the Red Cross and Navy League.
Ever the inveterate traveller, 1949 saw a return to Europe Tunisia, Turkey where this wonderful Gallipoli painting was created. It was part of a highly sought after European collection all pictures were in storage as Gouache on paper each between conservation tissue most signed and dated unframed. The painting has been professionally glass framed to a very high standard.
