BMW Other 2002 Baur Cabriolet 1973

It’s almost Christmas and an opportunity for someone to treat themselves to a noteworthy classic BMW 2002 Baur Cabriolet with some Alpina goodies!

My late father purchased this gorgeous late 1973 BMW 2002 in 1976 in London from the original owner, an enthusiast who setup the car for classic rallies, lavishing it with a number of Alpina improvements including uprated roll bars, Bilstein suspension, a mild camshaft and head upgrade and twin Dellorto 42mm DHLA carburettors.

In stunning ‘Turkis Blue’ the 2002 became affectionately known as ‘Chlorie’. Rather than regular commutes, Chlorie mainly enjoyed road trips around France and Europe while my father, an accomplished violinist, was on tour with London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.

By the early 90s Chlorie was ready for a refresh and enjoyed a full restoration by Jaymic BMW 2002 specialists in UK including:

• New chassis parts and panels where needed
• Engine and carbs reconditioned
• Bare metal respray
• New convertible roof (rear hood and top panel)
• Engine and carbs reconditioned
• Suspension and brakes overhauled

Receipts for approximately $30,000 worth of work by Jaymic are included, also owner manuals and receipts from the original owner - even the 1970s UK Alpina supplier parts catalogue!

After the Jaymic restoration in the 90s my father returned to New Zealand with Chlorie. Due to some health issues, Chlorie did not get much use other than BMW Car Club events and some road trips, otherwise she lived in the garage, with scheduled servicing maintained by Bavarian Motors.

This 2002 looks amazing with striking paint and very tidy interior. A fastidious owner/collector will see things to do to obtain top concourse standard however she is ready to go and enjoy this summer and will be a rewarding long term relationship and appreciating asset for the new owner.
