Jennifer Zea’s journey starts in Paraguana, falcon, Venezuela, Zea grew up listening to Salsa by artists such as la Fania, Ruben Blades and Oscar D’leon and local troubadour Ali Primera. Turned to Disco via her brother: acts such as Dianna Ross, sister Sledge and Rick James defined her early love for Soul and R&B, which was later made a permanent stamp for her after living in Detroit and witnessing the birth of MTV as a young teenager. Not stopping there, Jennifer has layered even more references from her travels to Brazil and France in her adulthood, reviving Bossa Nova and becoming versed in the Chanson française. Such a rich background makes her unique mix of styles someone to watch out for. Bossa nova, Cuban rhythms, Caribbean Boogaloo and Soul are just the start of what this new Latin female singer is capable of. Now based in New Zealand her latest collaboration with New Zealand’s best jazz artists has resulted in The “all stars” Antipodean Collective consisting of Kim Patterson, Kevin Field, Miguel Fuentes, Jonathan Crayford and including internationally renowned musician, Nathan Haines who produced her awaited debut album The Latin Soul.
