Beautifully proportioned, epic sounding djembe from Mali West Africa. It is made of Hare, also known as Balafon wood as it is what the balafon (African xylophone) keys are made of. It's a beautiful, dense hardwood with a tight-knit grain and incredible sound qualities. It is skinned with an African goat skin with the hairy, white/brown overhang. It has a beautiful, round, woody sound and is 60cm tall with a 32cm diameter head. The bottom part of the leg is carved in typical West African motives and the bottom ring sits in a carved groove to prevent slipping when the drum is skinned. This is a very inspiring instrument that will make you want to play more and more. Sound file and video available upon request.
