Description
MANASSAS Manassas is Stephen Stills big-band side project from his solo work and his buddy band, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Stills assembled a first rate outfit for this adventure, including Al Perkins, Chris Hillman of the Byrds, Paul Harris, Joe Lala, along with Dallas Taylor and bassist Calvin Samuels, both of whom rode as part of the backing band for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The album is split thematically, with each of the four sides being individually titled [The Raven, The Wilderness, Consider, and Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay] in order to showcase the twenty-one tracks in a sort of conceptual manner. The Raven is composed of songs that encompass a bluesy jazz feel, The Wilderness is totally infused with classic country flavors, Consider heads off in a folk rock country direction, and side four, Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay, totally rocks out.
