Description
The Indian Tree pattern was popular during the last half of the nineteenth century. It was copied from earlier Indian textile patterns. The pattern includes a gnarly tree branch with exotic flowers and leaves. The Coalport China factory created the Indian Tree design in 1801 and it was one of their most popular designs.
This is in really good condition with the colours still vibrant. This platter has no markings at all but is quite possibly Coalport. Early Coalport porcelains were mostly unmarked. If I hold it up in front of a light bulb I can see the shadow of my hand pass behind the platter. It is handpainted other than the brown panel which is transferware. Edges are handpainted in gold and showing surprisingly little wear. I’d say this is an early piece - say early to mid 1800s. Main design colours are green, aqua blue, and pinks.
Dimensions: 32 cm Wide, 25 cm deep
