Extremely Rare Samuel Lear Pottery Vase

Lear was manager at Milton Otago between 1888-1890

piece by Samuel Lear, but not made in New Zealand. It is a piece of Majolica Sand pottery, made at the Mayer Street Pottery Works, Hanley, Stoke on Trent. Going by the batch number, it was made in 1883. Lear went bust in 1886 and came to NZ in 1887. Got work at Milton Pottery as a manager, never made any pottery in NZ, as his drinking habits caught up with him. Was dismissed June 1888. Died on shipwreck 'Colonist Aug 31st,1888 WGTN.
