WADE GUINNESS "MADHATTER" PROMOTIONAL FIGURE. 1968.
In December 1968, Guinness Brewing commissioned George Wade to produce four promotional figurines based on characters featured in the "Guinness Book of Advertising."
The order was for 3000 sets of the four figurines and 8000 singles ( 2000 each of the four ). These figurines have proven to be highly collectable and due to the limited issue, are hard to find and thus command a high price.
None of the figurines are marked with a Wade backstamp or mark but all have " GUINNESS " mold-marked on the front of the base. However, the hand painted underglaze finish is unmistakably "WADE".
MADHATTER-- This figure again based on a character from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland which, in turn, was based on an advertisement by Antony Groves- Raines for a 1954, edition of The Illustrated London News. The figure measures 3-1/4" high by 1-1/2" across the base.
In EXCELLENT condition, no chips or cracks.
