There are a few ways to receive payments for trades:


Ping allows you to make instant payments from your bank account, Ping balance, or credit/debit card. Payments appear in a seller’s Ping balance instantly, so buyers should get their items faster. With Ping, you can use the stored money in your Ping balance (from items you’ve sold) to pay for Trade Me purchases.

  • It’s easy: no more mucking around swapping bank account details.
  • It’s instant: payments are processed instantly so you should receive items faster.
  • It’s safe: paying with Ping offers you more protection because it keeps all the buyer and seller information securely on Trade Me. There’s no need to share your bank account or credit card details, and our Customer Support team will help you out if there are any problems. Plus, our new initiative Buyer Protection is applied to most Ping payments.

Bank deposit

Buyers deposit the payment directly into your bank account.This can be done via internet banking, phone banking or at a local branch.


This option is ideal if you allow pick-ups. It’s not recommended for buyers to send cash via post.

My Trade Me

Your My Trade Me is the place to go to oversee all your trades. There you’ll find quick links to the items you’re selling, the items you’ve sold, your unsold items, and you can set up My Products.

You can check out your Trade Me account statement to keep an eye on your transactions, and your Pay Now account statement if you’re registered to receive payment this way.




What can I use the money in my Trade Me account for?
Your Trade Me account credit can only be used to pay for listing and success fees, not for buying things.

A buyer wants to pay me  via Moneygram or Western Union – is this okay?
If this happens to you, please contact us immediately. These payment methods are commonly used in scams as they are untraceable payment methods.

A buyer has used Ping, however the funds aren’t showing in my account. Should I still send the item?
Please wait till you receive the email from us saying the payment has gone through smoothly and that you can release the goods. If you haven’t heard from us, touch base with the team for more information.

Why have my listings disappeared from My Trade Me?
Listings only stay in your My Trade Me folders for 45 days after they close. After this date they’re archived permanently. Be sure to relist or sort out all your listings before then so that you don’t run in any problems.
