If the North African campaign of 1941 was to succeed, it was essential that all enemy ships supplying Rommel be destroyed.
Every day, two Blenheim squadrons flew dangerously low (50-100 ft) over the Mediterranean, in search of the enemy convoys - with bombs not torpedoes.
They battled against enormous odds. The ships were bristling with guns and the waves were perilously close. But they never gave in.
This is a tribute to the courage of 1 those young airmen who played such a vital role in that crucial battle. They paid the price of heroism with their lives - for only one in ten survived.

Review BLK

Not just another memoir of an RAF pilot, this is the tale of a self-described pacifist who becomes a light bomber pilot, flying a Blenheim IV from Malta. The first quarter of the book covers the author's decision to become a pilot, his training and a few anti-ship missions along the European coast. The remaining three-quarters covers 8 weeks as a member of 107 Squadron on Malta and the heavy toll the near suicidal losses suffered

Losses among 107 squadron had been so heavy – 90% of all original and replacement crews were killed in action during the Malta operations – that at one time the squadron was commanded by a sergeant, I. G. Broom

An interesting story worth a read
1979 softcover some foxing text good illustrated
