When activated the PLB1 transmits your position and your ID to the Rescue Coordination Centre - Canberra & RCCNZ Wellington via satellite link who then contact each other.

THIS IS A REAL STORY as to how the PLB1 personal locator beacon works around the world saving lives everyday.

The example in this story is how an Australian coded beacon was activated by a group of trampers in the Nelson lakes National Park on the South Island Jan 23rd 2014. From activation to the sighting of the Nelson Marlborough Helicopter it took just over an hour.

As demonstrated, having a PLB, be it Australian or New Zealand coded, when activated, both countries' Rescue Coordination teams work as one in the interest of saving lives.
