Threaded and nutted post

Most commonly found on V Brakes, U Brakes and Linear Pull Brakes.

This style of nutted brake pad is found on most styles of bike including Mountain Bikes, Hybrid Bikes, Tandems, Folding Bikes and Touring Bikes. It is rare that they would be fitted on a Road Bike.
Previous to this type of pad you used to have pads with a bare clamping pillar, these were suited to fit older style cantilever brakes.

Fitting and Maintenence:

First of all remove your old pads and wipe down the brake components that remain attached to the frame or fork. This can be done with an old rag and a spot of bike cleaning fluid (like Muc Off or Fenwicks). Also give the rims a wipe down and don't forget to rinse.
This should remove any old brake dust that has been blasted over your bike every time you pull the brakes on.

Now you can fit your new pads.

As you will see on the brake pad you have an arrangement of washers, 2 convex and 2 concave. These help to get the pad alignment set up correctly so be sure to have them in the correct order.

Once you have the brake pad loosely fitted into the brake arm you can start to line up the pad with the rim. It is easier to do this with some tension being taken up by the brake cable so if you are fitting new cables too I would fit them first.
It is important to get the pad body central on the rim. You do not want the rubber to foul the tyre in any way, nor do you want half of the pad falling off the rim towards the spokes. Both styles of incorrect fitting will age your tyres and pads with un-even wear and could even cause a blow out whichcan be quite dangerous.

Thereforeline up the pad in the middle of the rim.

Now repeat this for the other side and then adjust your cable tension This item is sold by SDJ Sports, a business located in the UK and import duty/gst may apply. Please check for more.
