Many people have enjoyed playing Canasta but found it became lop-sided when one person picked up the huge pile of cards in the middle. So did John Murphy (Kiwi born), so he experimented with the cards and rules, until he had perfected it. This version has 3 decks of cards and 9 jokers and limits the pick up from the middle to 5 cards.

Originally this great game was called Canasta Five because of the number of cards able to be picked up from the middle. It is still the same game - the only thing that has changed is the name. It now pays tribute to it’s inventor and his wife, John and Ola Murphy from New Zealand.
